as MarshalN says, changing your water is the cheapest way to improve your tea.

i have been avoiding trying to compare water for a few reasons. the first is that i am scared to admit to myself that it makes a big difference. i don’t want water to have such a big impact because IF spring water is tons better, that means there is yet another hurdle to having better tea. my mission for myself, and this blog, is to enjoy tea at a reasonable price and to be accessible to a westerner who doesn’t want to drop a lot of dough on leaves or accoutrements. yes one could easily buy spring water from the gas station but buying bottled water makes me furious (because its wasteful and all the horrible practices of companies who are taking drinking water from poor people so they do not have access to clean water). and if one doesn’t want to buy spring water, where else can you easily get it? how many people live near a natural spring?!

ummmm… i do…

you do?! then why aren’t you using it you spoiled unappreciative tea guzzler?!

why? because it is cursed. yes, that’s right, the natural spring in the town i live in has a curse. OoOoOOoooOOh… i am not making this up. there is the tradition that if you drink from this well you are destined to return to this town/be stuck here (the traditions vary). mind you, i am not a superstitious person. i don’t care about other superstitions. so why am i so worried about this supposed curse? …because i don’t want to be stuck here. i like to have an escape plan and the curse would completely thwart that.

surprisingly, the thing that has pushed me to finally drink from this spring is not any sense of rationalism or reasonable even-headedness. no, none of that silly business. my reason is for the tea. yes, i am putting myself at risk for the sake of Camellia and for you my dear readers and fellow tea lovers. i will cut this post short and save my proof of dedication to the noble leaf for another time. i must prepare myself.

stay tuned for future posts where i drink, compare, and discuss this spring water vs spring water from another spring near me, and compare those to other kinds of water.

xoxo,
