shneihem aroomim- naked yiwu

10 cheshvan 5782   since i mentioned it in my last post, i thought i would talk about the naked yiwu from teas we like. this is a well liked and well known tea in the western puer scene. it is made by a Taiwanese boutique brand called Xi Zi Hao (XZH) and it was my first Taiwanese boutique tea. like the love forever, i am not going to have any hot takes or new insights on this tea. off the bat i will say it is a very good tea but for $168/cake plus shipping, i am a touch let down. my one problem with it is that i don’t get many steeps out of it and i wish it had more stamina. i made this point on discord and some people also feel this way, but, the rumor is that the cake is blended rather unevenly and there are some real great spots and some just okay spots. i am still waiting to hit that sweet magic spot. one reason this tea is particularly liked is because the price is a good deal for something coming from XZH. their teas can be quite expensive. one reason it is more afforda...

29 tishrei 5782 (new year now)   oh, hey there! been a long time hasn’t it? i wasn’t kidding when i said i wouldn’t be posting here much during the summer. but the summer is now over and the season is changing. now the winds are getting windier, the rains rainier, the clouds cloudier, and sundown comes sooner and sooner each day. this is the time of year when i sit inside more and need my inside hobbies to occupy my time. all of which brings me back to this blog. i have a good deal to write about since ive last been here. im sure youre just dyiiiiiing to know what ive been up to. well, here, ill tell you. i made use of all the good sunshine we got out here over the summer. i did not camp as much as i wanted to to but i did spend a lot of time outside. i went for walks, sat outside, watched trees, listened to birds, squinted at bugs, and drank lots of tea. firstly, it is confirmed, i do not like drinking young sheng. i keep trying it and keep coming back to the same ...

megillah- discord

elul 5 781 i did not want to join discord. its format is why i try avoid interacting too much with the internet. there is always something going on and happening on discord whether it be a discussion or voice chat/video tea rooms. it is easy to get sucked in and spend a lot of time interacting with it. it’s also very easy for me to be overcome with fomo because there is always something going on. Oh no, i might miss out on this group buy, oh no i might miss out on someone giving away some hot tips on an unknown tea or vendor, oh no I might miss out on the beginning of some inside joke, etc etc. despite all this, i have dipped into discord. the main reason was because I heard there were good deals and group buys being organized on there and i wanted in. well, it is true. discord is where you can find people organizing group buys for taobao or yang qing hao. The trading/selling area has some really good teas that are hard to come or people post samples of teas where the v...

b'reisheet barah- in the beginning

This guide is created in mind for people who are new to drinking puer and want to know where to get started when buying tea. This is also aimed at people who do not want to spend a lot of money or do not have a lot of money to spend. This blog is written by somebody who doesn’t have a lot of money and lives in Amerika. Just want to say that to show what influences my buying habits based on availability and shipping. I first want to say that this can be an expensive hobby. Not only can certain teas be expensive but puer is also a high maintenance tea that requires certain storage and care if you really want to get the best out of it. I will say this now to make sure it is said up front: Please, please, please, buy samples. The best way to learn about puer is by trying it. Tea is something you experience with your body and no matter how much you read about it, the only way to find what you like is to try a whole bunch of things. Yes, it can be expensive to try all this tea, but ...

yishavu mayim v'yishpichu- a tea pouring with friend

Image
13 av 5781 i just had a big tea tasting with a friend for my first time. in the past i have poured tea for friends many times, but this time, we drank four teas. damnnnnnnn. they’ve had fancy tea before but not often and it was a while ago. they usually drink green tea. they like to needle me for being one of those tea snobs who doesn’t drink green tea, which i am (i just never happen to crave it. im also currently in a puer wormhole). i had a whole thing planned out. first, try this fancy green tea i traded for from a friend the other day. then, we would try a young sheng puer blend so we could compare green to puer. next was some 2019 autumn gushu. here we were really able to notice the difference in qi between all the teas. i intended to have our last to be a young spring gushu, but i asked if they wanted another young puer or something different like an aged puer. she wanted something different so i brewed us some 2011 yiwu stored in Taiwan. very different, very nice, l...
